Biacore 2000 is primarily used to characterize macromolecular interactions between proteins, nucleic acids, and lipids.

It contains four flow cells that can be monitored simultaneously and sample can be applied in series over the different surfaces.

Typically one flow cell is used as a control or reference surface to correct for bulk refractive index changes, instrument drift, and nonspecific binding.
